Editor’s Note: My eight year old son designed and built his first robot at a summer camp. He wrote down the steps below. Enjoy and build your own play robot, building is the easiest way to learn. If you designed and built something recently, please let us know. We can consider posting it here.
Now, you can see a video of STICKY.
And now, I will teach you how to build this robot from simple parts you can find in your home and all the steps.
What parts are needed to build Sticky?
Here are the parts needed to build the robot
1x big popsicle stick (To Label)
3 or 4x head bands (To Decorate)
1 or 2x any colored marker (To Draw)
2x small popsicle sticks (For Hands)
1x cardboard (For Base)
3x small cylindrical containers (For Legs)
1x battery compartment (For electricity)
1x hot glue stick (To Make it Move)
1x switch (For Off & On)
1x motor ( To Make it Walk)
2x 1.5 AA batteries (To Power)
6x wires (To Join)
3x connectors (To Connect Wires)
20x hot glue sticks (To Glue)
1x super jumbo paper (To collect the INK.)
What equipment is needed?
Here is the list of equipment you need to build. If you do not have the exact equipment, please use some substitute to accomplish the same job.
1x cardboard scissor (To Cut)
1x hot glue gun (To Get out Glue).
Steps to build
Here are the step to build the robot
1. Make a circle, square, or triangle on the piece of cardboard & cut it out. (Base)
2. Get your 3 containers and your hot glue gun.
3. Put a hot glue stick inside your hot glue gun. (If at any time the hot glue doesn’t come out, just put another hot glue stick in.)
4. Glue your 3 containers to the top of your base in the shape of a triangle with hot glue. (Legs)
5. Now, turn it around so that the legs are at the bottom.
6. Get 2 small popsicle sticks and glue them on opposite sides of the cardboard so that they look like the wings of the robot. (Wings)
7. Get the motor and glue it on the front of the cardboard. (Motor)
8. Get your battery compartment and glue it in the middle. (Battery Compartment)
9. Glue your switch in the right of your battery compartment. (Switch)
10. Put your 3 or 4 headbands anywhere for decoration. (Decoration)
11. ( 3 parts)
( 1st part) a. Put one of your wires from the switch and connect it with the RED wire of the motor. ( Warning: Use the connectors.)
(2nd part) b. Put one of your wires from the switch & connect it with the RED wire of the battery compartment. (Warning: Use the connectors.)
(3rd part) c. Connect the BLACK from the battery compartment & connect it with the BLACK wire of the motor. ( Warning: Use the connectors.)
12. Solder your wires onto the connectors.
13. Cut 1 of your hot glue sticks into 1/3.
14. Glue one of them to your motor.
15. If you chose 1 marker, then glue it on the left. If you chose 2 markers, then glue 1 on the left and 1 on the right. (To Draw)
16. Now, get the paper. (To collect the INK.)
17. (Last step) Put 2 AA batteries inside. (To Power the circuit)
These were the steps to build Sticky robot.
Now, you turn on the switch, open markers cap, & watch your bot scribble!!!
