Takeaways from HRI 2023
First of all, apologies for this delayed post. I was supposed to post an update for Day 4 of HRI 2023, but that didn’t materialize because I was tired after attending 4 days of an online conference, and there was too much material to absorb from the entire conference. For those reading this post for the first time, our daily coverage of HRI 2023 is here for Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3.
So this post tries to make amends by summarizing key trends from HRI 2023.
Humanoid robots dominate: Most of the research has moved to the realm of humanoid robots. While this might not be surprising for a conference that is centered on human - robot interaction, there is clearly a popularity of humanoid robots such as Nao amongst the research community. We found that as many as 23 research papers made some use of the Nao. The Furhat robot seemed to be the next most popular robot used in research totaling 7 research papers.
