There has been a flurry of activity in robotics this week, which this post seeks to unravel. Lets get to business.
Physical Intelligence (PI) open sources 𝝅0. We have discussed Physical Intelligence a few times in this forum. 𝝅0 is the most advanced Vision Language Action (VLA) model out there in the market. This week, PI made 𝝅0 model weights open source. They also open-sourced code to run inference with 𝝅0 and fine tune 𝝅0 for other robots. They released fine-tuned weights for two popular robotics research platforms: ALOHA and DROID. Their blog post (which is a great read) features videos from research groups and universities who have tried 𝝅0 on in completely new and different environments and demonstrated that these models work.
In our view, open sourcing this model is great news for robot enthusiasts, as this is a top-notch model to experiment and play with. We are eager to see which research groups pick up experimenting with 𝝅0. One exciting thing to try would be to see how…
