The Bittle robot with the PIR sensor installed

This is our second post on the series of exploring the Petoi Sensor Pack for robotics. Our previous post in this series was on the Petoi Double Touch Sensor. These sensors work akin to the Petoi Camera Module; you can check our tutorial on making Bittle track a ball, and having Bittle respond to colors.

PIR Motion Sensor

The Passive Infrared (PIR) Motion Sensor of Petoi works very similar to the PIR Sensor for Arduino, it outputs a high voltage whenever it detects movement which is usually in the form of a human or animal moving in its vicinity. As such, it works very easily, and can be used as a beginners example of how to integrate a sensor with the Petoi Bittle robot.

Petoi has great documentation on how to integrate this sensor. Very simply, you need to connect the sensor with a cable to the digital input ports of the Grove connector on the Nyboard/Biboard. Then, you need to edit the Bittle firmware to enable PIR, and upload the new firm…
